AMD Global Telemedicine Inc. and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Bring High-Tech Health Care to Children of Texas

North Chelmsford, MA (PRWEB) January 14, 2010 -- AMD Global Telemedicine (http://www.amdtelemedicine.com/) Inc. (AMD) today announced that Texas Tech University Health Science Center (TTUHSC) is deploying AMD'stelemedicine equipment (http://www.amdtelemedicine.com/telemedicine-equipment/)to extend their telemedicine program to an additional 30 sites located in rural parts of the state of Texas. AMD continues its partnership with TTUHSC as they embark on their new high tech initiative to provide healthcare to the children of Texas. The program known as the Children's Healthcare Access in Rural Texas (CHART) is the only program of its kind in Texas.

Presently, 75% of the children of Western Texas live more than 90 miles from the nearest hospital. This makes the access to and delivery of healthcare extremely difficult. Project CHART will give the children of West Texas immediate access to a TTUHSC pediatrician via telemedicine. A range of AMD's medical devices (http://www.amdtelemedicine.com/telemedicine-equipment/)for primary care will be used to connect with video conferencing equipment thus giving clinics real time health diagnostics capabilities. CHART allows clinicians to work remotely and have the ability to listen to heart and lung sounds and view quality medical images over great distances.

The $6.77 million program, funded by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, will help children in rural and medically underserved regions of West Texas get the care they need while relieving their families of the associated travel burdens. "A severe shortage of general pediatricians and pediatric specialists exists in rural and underserved communities and requires lengthy travel to locations where healthcare specialists are available," stated Mark Watts, Telemedicine Technology Manager at TTUHSC. "With the help of AMD's products, Texas Tech's Project CHART is breaking down the distance barriers and allowing us to provide more efficient health care to the state of Texas."

"Many rural and underserved communities face significant challenges when seeking pediatric healthcare services," said AMD President, Steven Normandin. "AMD Global Telemedicine provides a solution that has the potential to dramatically expand access to quality medical care for the children of Texas."
